Temperance Brennan hears the news on her car radio. An Air TransSouth flight has gone down in the mountains of western North Carolina, taking with it eighty-eight passengers and crew.
As a forensic anthropologist and a member of the regional DMORT team, Tempe rushes to the scene to assist in body recovery and identification. She finds a field of carnage: torsos in trees, limbs strewn among bursting suitcases and smoldering debris. Many of the dead are members of a university soccer team. Is Tempe’s daughter, Katy, among them?
Frantic with worry, Tempe joins colleagues from the FBI, the NTSB, and other agencies to search for explanations. Was the plane brought down by a bomb or simple mechanical failure? And what about the prisoner on the plane who was being extradited to Canada? Did someone want him silenced forever? And why are certain people eager to stop Tempe’s investigation? Is she learning too much? Coming too close?
With help from Montreal detective Andrew Ryan—and from a very special dog named Boyd—Tempe uncovers a shocking, multilayered tale of deceit and depravity.

No one liked CC de Poitiers. Not her quiet, ineffectual husband. Not the pallid, spineless photographer who was her lover. Not even her tremendously fat, eleven-year-old daughter Crie, dubbed "Brie" by her hateful classmates. And certainly none of the residents of the village of Three Pines, each of whom CC had managed to offend.
Therein lies the challenge for the Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Quebec, called in once again from Montreal to investigate murder in this hamlet. CC has been killed in an apparent electrical accident, and everyone in town has a motive, even the inspector’s good friends. The kind, compassionate, and whip-smart detective must employ all his talents, not least his ability to blend seamlessly into small-town life, to identify the calculating killer lurking within the pastoral landscape that is Three Pines.

The story of William Fly, New England’s most notorious pirate.
WILLIAM FLY. A boatswain aboard a slave ship, William Fly led a mutiny, killed the captain, renamed the ship “Fame’s Revenge”, and became a pirate chief. Known for his cursing rages and inhuman brutality, Fly often whipped his captives for up to one hundred lashes. He pirated many vessels along the New England coast. Finally captured off of the coast of Newburyport, Fly was bought to Boston for execution. Fly went to his execution with a nosegay in his hand and reproached the hangman for not knowing his craft as Fly fixed the noose around his neck with his own two hands. Fly was gibbeted at Nix’s Mate island in Boston Harbor. His pirate career had lasted only one month. Courtesy of www.piratemuseum.com

Leo Graf was just your average highly efficient engineer: mind your own business, fix what’s wrong, and move on to the next job.
But all that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat, where a group of humanoids had been secretly, commercially bioengineered for working in free fall.
Could he just stand there and allow the exploitation of hundreds of helpless children merely to enhance the bottom line of a heartless mega-corporation?
He hadn’t anticipated a situation where the right thing to do was neither safe, nor in the rules. Leo adopted a thousand quaddies. Now all he had to do was teach them to be free.

The presidency of George W. Bush has led to the worst foreign policy decision in the history of the United States — the bloody, unwinnable war in Iraq. How did this happen? Bush’s fateful decision was rooted in events that began decades ago, and until now this story has never been fully told.
From Craig Unger, the author of the bestseller House of Bush, House of Saud, comes a comprehensive, deeply sourced, and chilling account of the secret relationship between neoconservative policy makers and the Christian Right, and how they assaulted the most vital safeguards of America’s constitutional democracy while pushing the country into the catastrophic quagmire in the Middle East that is getting worse day by day.
Among the powerful revelations in this book:
